A Tough wit

An Alzheimer’s patient to her husband of 52 years: “You know what I’d like to do?”
Husband: “No dear, what would you like to do?”
“I’d like to crawl inside that light bulb…” she says, faltering.
He waits mustering his patience, as he has only recently learned to do.
Rocking to and fro, entranced by the table lamp she musters the words, “…and shut it off.”
He holds her hand in his… and they cry together.
