The following method was explained to me by a Canon Professional Service technician. Note: this procedure is not recommended for the faint of heart!
Philippines: Storytelling Workshop
Some 50 young people gather in Alabang, Philippines, for an afternoon workshop on the power and techniques of rich-media storytelling.
My UV filter stuck on my canon 55-250mm lens, i tried too much , even service center also tried, finally , one local service center has some tool to catch filter and broke the filter ring and removed it.
He was telling that i need to remove filter when not in use for long time. Any how small self service for lens is required every month, so i do it.
I can testify that this works! A visiting relative just came home with a cracked filter. Having read this on another site recently I tried a variation using a metal file and it worked like a charm! Thanks for the great idea.
Very glad it worked for you, Mike. There have been a lot of alternate methods suggested in other forums where this article appeared – most of the methods are far less invasive and I would definitely use the method above only as a last resort. 😉
😆 not bad 😆
Give me a tip : how to fix a stuck lens?
Yikes, get thee to a service center and quick! Unless of course you want to saw the whole thing in half (kidding).
Are you kidding me? Why not just use an oil filter wrench from your local automotive supply store?
That’s a fair question, Kelly, but I’d already tried a rubber grip and a bottle wrench but it wouldn’t even budge. The techs at Canon Professional Service warned that any extra effort might strip the threads of the lens itself. I grant you this is a pretty extreme approach, but bottom line is that it worked!
Ahh, scary procedure. I’m never a fan of seeing such tools around expensive gear.
I would say that using tools like that just demands that you know what you’re doing. I wouldn’t doubt using those tools in such a situation if I knew what I was doing.
Hahaha – you got that right, Sascha. This was a last resort approach for me (having tried everything else) and I did wind up going over the procedure with the repair desk at Canon 2X before attempting it!
Haha, fair enough. 🙂
